A release from Montana’s Fish, Wildlife and Parks has confirmed the death of a woman whose body was found on a trail by a group of hikers over the weekend.
The body of 48-year-old Amie Adamson was found Saturday morning on the Buttermilk Trail roughly 8 miles from West Yellowstone. The former school teacher is believed to have been alone when the attack took place, likely on a morning run.
Adamson had been working in Yellowstone for the summer months and was noted by many to be an outdoor enthusiast.
Containing lacerations and other injuries consistent with a grizzly bear attack, officials launched a full-scale investigation. The scene of the incident revealed adult grizzly tracks along with juvenile grizzly tracks indicating that the attack was the result of a chance encounter between a mother and her cubs.
Wildlife officials have deployed traps throughout the region in an attempt to capture the bear, but have yet to have had any success.
Given the proximity to town, many of the local trails, including the Buttermilk have remained closed for safety reasons. Wildlife officials in Montana continue to remind the public to be bear aware and carry spray or other protection when out in the wilderness.
