A 28-year-old woman stumbled across a deer fawn while travelling down a country road in Mendocino County, California when the idea of selling the animal on Craigslist entered her mind.
Despite it being illegal to remove a fawn from the wild, Lacy Jean David of Ukiah did just that and then placed an ad on the popular classified site, listing her new-found treasure for sale at $300.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the young lady posted the ad and photos of the deer Tuesday morning, prompting an investigation by state game wardens. It wasn’t long before a sting operation was in place and officers arranged a place and time to purchase the animal.
Davis was arrested at the sting on an unrelated warrant for her failure to appear at a previous drug case and the animal was recovered by officials.
The fawn has been placed in a rehabilitation facility and it reportedly in good health.
