A Florida man is facing a slew of violations after inviting one particularly endangered species of deer into his home.
According to the Florida Wildlife Commission (FWC), Thomas F. Scancarelli, 61, of Big Pine Key, had a habit of enticing endangered Key deer by feeding them. What started as a seemingly harmless endeavor to hand-feed his local deer, soon became somewhat of an obsession.
According to his Facebook profile (yes, that smart), Scancarelli began by feeding the deer and eventually invited them inside his home. There they would share meals together and, according to one Facebook post, watch Fox News.
As with any brain-dead attempt to film blatant crime and post it to social media, FWC quickly caught up with Scancarelli, who began posting back in October of last year.
He was arrested on February 27th and has been charged with 32 misdemeanor counts of violations related to an endangered species.
The FWC went ahead and reminded the public that deer are not pets and should be treated as such. Activities such as feeding deer can lessen their fear of humans, cause them to congregate and increase the risk of disease.
