A 61-year-old Louisiana man had his day in court recently and was hit with just about everything the law could throw at him. A serial poacher by nature, Clifton “Brent” Sharp of Jena, LA was arrested both in the fall of 2019 and then again in 2020 for egregious poaching charges.
On October 24, 2019, Sharp was arrested for taking over the seasonal limit of deer, failing to comply with deer tagging requirements, using another person’s deer tags and failing to validate deer tags.
If that wasn’t enough, he was cited again the following year for using another person’s deer tag and failing to properly tag deer.
Louisiana wildlife officials began their investigation following the 2018 season after being tipped off that he was a little too trigger happy around whitetails. After obtaining search warrants, officers executed at both of Sharp’s properties and interviewed the accused at his residence.
It was there he admitted to taking 16 deer during the 2018-19 deer season and using other people’s tags while hunting.
After his appearance in court, he was sentenced to pay $24,269 in civil restitution and $966 in court hearing costs for the deer hunting violations. The court further ordered that all Louisiana recreational hunting and fishing licenses held by Sharp are immediately revoked and no new licenses may be obtained as long as any fine amounts remain unpaid.
Time to pay up, Brent.
