The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) quite often shares a number of photos captured by their audience to their social profiles such as Facebook. While most images depict majestic elk, often with beautiful scenery as the back drop, yesterday’s post left a few of us puzzled.
The photograph was of a bull elk who was missing his ears. After a bit of research I learned that this particular elk lives in the National Elk Refuge bordered by Jackson, Wyoming, where you can hop on a horse-drawn sleigh and secure photographs of this elk and others much like it, ideally with their ears in tact.
Many believe that this elk may have suffered from frostbite at a young age, a common cause of ear loss in cattle as well.
See the original post below and be sure to give RMEF a like!
Notice anything different about this bull #elk that keeps returning to Jackson, #Wyoming? (thanks Zack for the photo) #RMEF
