While most other residents in Colusa County, California were reveling in the marvel that is all things July 4th this year, a sleeping woman was treated to another level of theatrics.
While peacefully sleeping in her bed on July 4th, a mountain lion gained access to her apartment through a window and jumped on her while she lay in bed.
“She was asleep and it landed on her bed and actually at first I think she said she thought she was dreaming, it didn’t seem real,” apartment manager Francis Muniz told Fox 40.
Keeping her wits, the woman promptly sprang to life and opened the back door of her apartment, letting the disoriented cat exit safely.
An investigation by Colusa County Fish and Wildlife revealed the had obtained security camera footage depicting the cat scurrying around town and running into a door at a nearby bowling alley before gaining access to the woman’s apartment.
While no one was hurt in the incident – other than minor injuries to the cat – Colusa County Fish and Wildlife Commissioner John Troughton believes the cougar problem needs to be addressed before someone does end up getting hurt.
“People can be in danger when they come face to face with one of these lions,” Troughton said. “The reality is that lions are in this area, one of them has been in town probably more than once.”
