Montana Man Dispatches Home Intruding Black Bear At 3 AM

A Montana man was jarred awake earlier this month when a 300lb black bear gained access to his living room in the early morning hours.

Sleeping peacefully alongside his fiancé, Thomas Bolkcom was awoken to the sounds of his dog going absolutely mental. Assuming that his trusty sidekick saw something outside of the home, Bolkcom rose from his lower-level bedroom and was met with something that would make even the best of us rub the sleep out of our eyes and second guess what we were witnessing.

In his shocked state he found himself face-to-face with a 300-pound black bear rummaging through his living room. As his instincts kicked in, Bolkcom rushed back downstairs to retrieve his Glock 10mm and attempt to figure out if this bear would leave his home or die trying to stay.

“I never thought there would be a bear in our house, so that was quite the wakeup call at three in the morning. I just stayed downstairs with the dogs, trying to help keep them out of the way and let Tom handle it,” his fiancé said.

According to reports, Bolkcom tried to scare the bear out of the home, but when the bear turned aggressive, the homeowner had no choice but to use force. Burying six rounds into the bear, it collapsed in the living room as Bolkcom placed a call to the police and Montana FWP.

After a brief investigation, officials determined the incident was an act of self defense.
