Back in January a video of three men beating a deer in the head using an accounting textbook surfaced online, prompting a massive investigation by authorities in Georgia.
In a horrific display, the short video depicted the men using the textbook to hit the deer over the head at least five times.
“It was disgusting. That’s not reflective of Arkansas values, especially outdoorsmen and hunters. It was hard to watch,” Keith Stephens, with Arkansas Game and Fish told KATV.
After hitting the deer with their vehicle, the accused loaded the deer into the vehicle, without reporting the incident to either the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission or the Arkansas County Sheriff’s Office. The deer then regained consciousness while they were transporting the animal, leading to the savage beating.
The men landed themselves in court this week and were subsequently sentenced for their despicable actions. Joshua Rewis of Villa Rica, Georgia pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals and wasting wildlife misdemeanor charges, netting him a $2,250 in fines, 60 days in jail, and 60 days suspended sentence. In addition, he was also ordered to undergo psychological evaluations as part of his sentencing.
The others involved; Cody Jones of Carrollton, Georgia and Travis Strickland of Winston, Georgia were both charged with criminal aiding and abetting and each were ordered to pay $370 fines.
The driver of the vehicle, Johnna Sigler or Stuttgart, Arkansas, was issued a warning citation for aiding and abetting.
