A brutal hunting accident has left a northwestern Iowa teen in a fight for his life. The victim, identified as Joseph Salmon by friends and family, was duck hunting with friends in the Spring Run Wildlife Management Area around 8:30 Saturday morning when he was shot in the head.
The victim was airlifted to Sioux Falls Hospital where he was immediately whisked into surgery. A GoFundMe page, set up by the victim’s aunt, indicates that Salmon was recently placed in a medically-induced coma, and is now “moving his legs a little bit more and squeezing hands.”
A football player at Okoboji High School, several benefits have been spun up to help with his medical expenses.
This was not the first time that Joe Salmon has made the news either. Earlier this year, he and four friends were credited with saving an elderly man and his dog by jumping into the frigid waters of Lake Okoboji to rescue them after their vehicle went off the bridge.
Judging by the information available, the incident seems to be accidental in nature. Donations are being accepted through the GoFundMe page and donations through Liberty National Bank.
We’re praying for you, Joe.
