Blow Dart Poacher Arrested in New Jersey

Blow dart incidents are on the rise.

A Morristown, NJ man has been arrested after using a blow dart to illegally kill one deer and seriously injure another in a woodland area on Morris Township property.

This is the second incident of its kind in the last month. In August, Texas authorities released images of a deer illegally killed with a blow dart and asked the public for help in finding the suspects.

The arrest comes after authorities were alerted about a dead deer on August 22 that had orange darts sticking out of its body. As the investigation progressed, multiple reports of other deer running around with darts poking out of them began to surface as well.

The investigation revealed that there were multiple razor-sharp darts found around the area of the deceased deer, a cause for concern in a populated area.

“These metal darts could have easily harmed another person. Our officers have observed additional deer in the area with darts hanging from their bodies,” the Morris Township Police Department said.

The illegal shooting was believed to have taken place somewhere between 12:15 AM and 12:30 AM, according to police.

Earlier this week, police made the announcement that Jalen O’Neal, 26, had been apprehended for the illegal killing. He was arrested and charged with violation of unlawful possession of a weapon, creating a dangerous condition, and Morris Township Local Ordinance 265-1 discharge of a weapon in the Township of Morris.
