Russian-based designer Anton Egorov depicts the inner workings of one of the most ubiquitous firearms in the world. Also referred to as the Kalashnikov or simply AK, this gas-operated weapon was initially presented for official military trials in 1946 and was officially accepted into service by the Soviet Armed Forces four years later in 1949.

Nearly 70 years later, the AK-47 remains as one of the most widely-used firearms in the world. Estimates from the World Bank indicate that the AK-47 and its variations today, comprise a fifth of all firearms on the planet.
