Lauren Fazen Hamilton was lucky enough to witness (and document) nature at its very finest. A Facebook post she made yesterday broadcast some fantastic imagery from the chance encounter as two primal predators faced off over the carcass of a deceased bison in Yellowstone National Park.
A native of Powell, Wyoming, Hamilton and her husband take their children to Yellowstone a few times each year. On this particular trip, they managed to spot the carcass earlier in the day and decided to stop and check it out once again, before heading out of the park. Sure enough, the family was delighted to have spotted a young grizzly feeding on the carcass.
After watching the bear for a few minutes, her family became restless, but decided to stay and watch the bear a little bit longer. That’s when the wolf suddenly appeared.
The encounter went on for about 30 minutes as Lauren and her family gazed at what was unfolding before their eyes. She quickly gathered her camera and began to document the encounter from a distance.
Initially the wolf came in an chased the bear off.
Followed by the bear returning and chasing the wolf off.
But not before the wolf gave chase one last time, tripping the bear into a small body of water.
The two eventually gave up and began eating together for a short period of time.
While she isn’t visiting Yellowstone, Hamilton spends her time as a professional photographer based in Wyoming and now seemingly will have a new collection of images to add to her portfolio.
