Video: Utah Conservation Officer Frees Mountain Lion from Bobcat Trap

A video posted to YouTube last week shows the intense rescue of a large mountain lion that was ensnared by a trap set for a bobcat.

Using catch poles to aid the officers in moving the large cat into a favorable position for release, the officers finally spring the animal free as it runs away.

Conservation officer Mark Ekins carefully filmed the footage and noted that this particular cat was much larger than most that become caught in bobcat traps.

“I’ve probably only done three in my career that were as big as the one you saw. That was a really big one,” he told a Utah television station. “Anytime we do something that the public doesn’t see all the time, I will video some of it.”
