Officer Allen Jacobs of the Greenville Police Department was shot and killed in April of this year after trying to reason with an armed man who had just been released from prison.

After a pursuit, the young man opened fire on Jacobs and another officer, hitting Jacobs multiple times and eventually turning his weapon on himself, taking his own life.

Officer Jacobs was survived by his wife and their two young sons after the somber incident.

This week, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources offered a special gift to the two young men who lost their father protecting their community.

DNR Officer Frank Jordan, State Law Enforcement Division Agent Joe Jordan and Greenville police Officer Derek Loftis presented Michael and Dillon Jacobs with lifetime fishing and hunting licenses in honor of their late father.

In addition to the licenses, the Greenville police K-9 unit also provided the boys with new fishing rods, tackle boxes and some artificial bait to get the boys started.

“These licenses will allow the boys to enjoy the outdoors, hunting and fishing for a lifetime and not have to purchase a license.” The Greenville Police Department’s Facebook Page post read.
