Bobcat Spotted at the Waste Management Phoenix Open

During the second round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open an unlikely visitor meandered around TPC Scottsdale during the second round of play yesterday. A bobcat was spotted running around between the first and second fairways and surprisingly enough, was photographed by the PGA TOUR and I’m sure a number of other outlets and spectators.

The bobcat, although very common in the state of Arizona, is very seldom seen. These medium-sized cats that can weight anywhere between 12 and 30 pounds, are regular visitors to the course and the surrounding area, but with the large crowds on hand for the tournament, its presence comes at quite a surprise.

The Waste Management Phoenix open is one of the PGA TOUR’s best events as it is one of the first events of the season. The tournament usually draws approximately 500,000 spectators each year and is famous for “The Coliseum”, the 16th hole on the course which has unofficially been referred to as the loudest hole in golf.

Hunters in the state of Arizona take a reported 2,000 bobcats each year, most of which are killed by hunters pursuing other came and by predator calling.
